Harissa is a classic North African condiment found in both a paste or sauce made from chili peppers, oil, and spices. Originally from Tunisia, it has since reached other areas of North Africa adapted to local flavor profiles. This is a Moroccan-style Harissa which is less chile-forward and has prominent layers of flavors from fresh mint, tomato paste and preserved lemons.
While it is common to find market variety Harissa made with vegetable oil, water and salt, Harissa N ̊1 contains superior quality ingredients with almost a quarter of preserved lemon per jar and organic Moroccan olive oil. This condiment is spicy, vibrant and herbaceous with a distinctly thick and silky texture which makes it ideal as a stand alone sauce, layered in sandwiches, or mixed in with yogurt to accompany grilled steak, chops and roast chicken.
