Cherished for their sweetness and consistently high quality, Afghanistan’s Kandahar figs are fully ripened and sun-dried on the tree before being hand-picked and flattened into disks. Because they are naturally sun-dried, they are never too soft or too dry, or anything less than a totally ideal texture. A forgotten superfood, figs are loaded with Fiber, Calcium, B1 and B2, Copper and Iron.
Ziba Foods, based in Kabul, continues doing the incredibly rewarding work of introducing these heirloom ingredients to a far wider audience, while simultaneously upholding an impactful operation at the source. In addition to supporting small-scale family farms throughout Afghanistan, Ziba also maintains an 80% women workforce at their headquarters in the capital.
