Wild Korean Gamtae Seaweed from Seosan. Seasoned with sesame oil and salt, this delicious wild seaweed is collected in winter by rolling its threaded texture onto long spools before being roasted and dried. Afterwards, it has hand pressed into sheets. Harvesters must be cautious to not dislodge it’s underwater root to preserve future regeneration of the plant. A rare and coveted food, records show it was consumed as far back as the 17th century during the Joseon dynasty. It was a favorite of the royal family.
What’s crazy is Gamtae tastes almost identical to a white truffle.
