This beautiful, violet-tinted Box Crab is delivered to us live from California. Brown Box Crabs are a rare, elusive species typically only found as bycatch amidst much more common California Rock Crabs. With a softer shell, sweeter flavor, and an exceptionally high ratio of meat to total weight, it is always a thrill when enough Brown Box Crabs are yielded to feature them among our offers.

Box Crabs are a variety of King Crabs, most closely related to Alaskan Kings and the Hokkaido Hairy Crab. They earned their name for the way their claws tetris together, interlocking like an elaborately wrapped package. In tandem with their impressive size and wet-sandy coloring, this physical eccentricity reinforces their borderline boutique status among specialty fishing ventures. Ours come from our fishing partners in Santa Barbara, southern California.
